The dell cum fiddlin thro the town, and danc'd awa wi' th' exciseman .....
The annual burns night dinner last Friday was a well supported event with a three course plated dinner of note. The club catering excelled themselves once again. Obviously there was also Haggis which I'm pleased to report went down very well. From the tradition of being piped in to the Trafalgar room by a wonderful young lady piper to the stabbing of the Haggis by our good friend Alistair Mackenzie all resplendent in full Scottish dress, the evening had its tradition as well as good company abound. The cancer committee of Kathryn Burger, Margie Harris and Keith Brodie were also in fine form and an extended auction of good scotch, a tapestry and a two night stay at a boutique hotel were auctioned. We are pleased to report that the auction raised R20 000.00 for our charity, the Highway Hospice. Once the liquor and fine wind took hold, we even auctioned the Scottish flags lent to us by the Caledonian society. Oh well this is going to take some explaining. In summary an excellent evening enjoyed by all and if you missed it, please diarise for next year. |
