The Royal Natal Yacht Club is actively involved in the promotion of all aspects of the leisure marine industry and we are always especially pleased to be able to assist in marine research. The University of Stellenbosch is currently engaged in an interesting study of the different types of marine growth in the various marinas around South Africa. We are delighted to provide assistance with the research which we are sure will be of benefit to boat owners and the environment. For more information read more here.

RNYC membership now rewarded with additional member's privileges – earn points!
It is that time of year again when annual subscriptions are due and while some members may be considering the merits of continued membership we have been working hard to develop a package of enhanced membership privileges which will ensure greater membership value for our club members. The initiative commenced in April with the exclusive offer to members to renew their subscriptions before 15th April at the current year's subscription avoiding the 2019/20 traditional subscription increase. We effect from 1st June 2019 members in good standing will receive the usual member's discounted prices on all Food & Beverage purchases which on average amounts to 30% off the advertised price, in addition members will now receive loyalty points in the ratio of:
Member's upon renewing their membership in full within the month of June will receive a bonus of R 100 worth of loyalty points. Loyalty points are valid for the membership year in which they are accrued and can be redeemed for Food & Beverage purchases in the Club. The minimum redemption is R 200. It is hoped that members will use this added generous privilege of membership to patronise the Club at every opportunity. In addition members who pre-fund their Club account to settle Food & Beverage purchases, RNYC race entries or sailing fees will receive R 100 worth of loyalty points for every R 1000 deposited to their account. Watch out for bonus points when you celebrate your birthday at the Club and our ongoing promotions throughout the year which will provide a very compelling incentive for members to spend their valuable leisure time at the Club especially in the prevailing difficult economic environment. Gift cards will be available from 1 June 2019 if you would like to treat you family and friends to the RNYC lifestyle. Going forward we are busy working on day membership cards for visitors and will keep you up-to-date on the progress of this. As members will be aware Durban and surrounds bore the brunt of a massive rainstorm last Monday, 22 April, where 165ml rain was recorded in the one day. We extend our condolences to the families who lost loved ones in this terrible storm. The Clubhouse was not immune to the devastation of the storm and we suffered some damage which we are still in the process of clearing up. Part of the Lower deck bar ceiling collapsed and some of the floor tiles have lifted and cracked. The Secretariat offices were flooded and some electronic equipment damaged. The carpets near the door areas of the Trafalgar Room and Britannia Room were soaked and the Chartroom ceiling and walls suffered some water damage.
We are sure you’ve all seen the pictures of debris in the bay and currently cleanup crews are busy while we have some volunteers scheduled to help us clean up our foreshore this Saturday. Members might remember Refiloe Mofokeng, the young lady who was doing her PhD in Estuary and Marine Ecology who was studying the toxicity of metals and microplastics in the Durban Marine systems. Refiloe spent a lot of time with cleanup volunteers at RNYC in the past 18 months and she has kindly offered to lead the cleanup crew this Saturday at RNYC. If you are able to join us on Saturday please just drop by. In addition to Refiloe and the RNYC staff, Cameron from the Litterboom project will bring 40 crew for 5 days to help. The amount of debris in Durban harbour is absolutely staggering! Bearing in mind of course we removed 80MT of debris from the Ndgoneni Lawns after the Great Storm of October 2017 the cleanup task is significant so please bear with us while the clean-up operations continue. While some of the damage to the Clubhouse will take a bit longer to remedy we are fully functional and look forward to seeing at the Clubhouse very soon. |
