This past weekend was a busy one for dinghy sailing! Over the 15th and 16th of June, Royal Natal Yacht Club hosted the Dart 18 Nationals, with our neighbours down the way, Durban Undersea/Point Watersports Club also opening their doors to accommodate visiting sailors. The regatta was a swift one, with the sailors managing to complete all ten races over two days.
We had the one and only Michael Robinson as Race Officer, supported by a great rescue/support crew: Alec McNamara, Chris Parry, Patricia Kilburn, Greg Barkley, Moses, Victor, and Welcome. Not to forget Sandy Samways running the show from land, with the help of Shaneé Davie - kept all too comfortable with a beach “base-camp” provided by Dart 18 Chairman, Derek van Heerden. Dart 18 Nationals 2019 Leaderboard: 1st: "On a Mission" Liam Gunning & Keegan Beukes (SYC) 2nd: Ben Mienie & Shannon Brown (SYC) 3rd: "Spungle" Rob Samways (RNYC) The energy was limitless and the sailing conditions forever changing, creating a great challenge for all SYC and RNYC sailors - the results speak for themselves! Well done to all who participated and a huge thank you to all involved in making this a successful regatta!
